This work started in 2025, but had been developing in my mind since 2019, long before I completed it in 2026.
It is inspired by the former community that lived inside an unfinished financial tower in Caracas, Venezuela, known as Torre de David. Rather than depicting the building from outside, I imagined a small interior: a woman eating, surrounded by food, utensils, belongings and a handmade sign. The work considers the quiet, everyday labour of making a room feel inhabited when stability has not been provided.
This is not a portrait of a particular resident or a documentary reconstruction. It is an imagined scene, made with care, exploring questions of home, abandonment, domestic memory, reuse, ingenuity and resilience in precarious circumstances.
